I live in New England, USA. I am 8 years old and have been playing golf since I was 3 years old. My dad and I will be visiting family in the UK this summer. Is there any National Golf Tournaments that include an 8 year old girls division?

Editor: Take a look at our calendars section in www.amateur-golf.com or contact the English Ladies Golf Association.

Could you tell me how the stableford scoring system works?

Editor:
The stablefield scoring system is a variation of the normal medal scoring. Points are awarded for each hole completed. One point for a net bogey, two for a net par, three for a net birdie, and so on. It means that if you take five at a par 3 without receipt for a stroke, you score no points. You don't have to complete every hole, so if you have already played more shots than will score you one point at any hole you can pick up and go to the next tee. In a medal competition you must hole out regarding of the number of strokes taken at every hole.

I know this subject is not your business, but if you could give me any assistance in how to start up a society, or who could help me I would be very grateful.
Thank you

You can obtain a lot of useful information by looking at the EGU website (www.englishgolfunion.org). They have a section on societies. Basically all you need is for a group of you to get together and decide to form a society. You should always play according to the rules of golf laid down by the R & A, but you can award your own handicaps although these will only be valid when you’re playing amongst your own society. There is no requirement that every member of the society must belong to a golf club. This is some fairly basic information but if we can be of any further help please get in touch.

Can you tell me the prices for me to start golfing . I am thirteen years old and want to join a Golf Club.

As every golf club charges a different subscription, I can't give you any fixed amount that you will have to pay. I would suggest you visit some clubs locally to where you live and find out what arrangements they have for junior golfers. It shouldn't be too much in view of your age and hopefully you can persuade you father to pay it for you!

I was at the regional qualifier for the open championship at Renfrew today. The young Australian Adam Scott had a remarkable 7 under par 65.He qualified in first position three shots clear.Scottish internationalist Barry Hume failed to qualify with a dissapointing level par 72.Among the others who qualified are, Stephen McAllister,Ross Drummond,Lee Harper and Roger Beames. Chris Cook.

The Worst Played Hole

Her name is lost to history, but the woman who finished last in the 1912 Shawnee Invitational for Ladies in Pennsylvania will live on for ever. When she teed off the 16th hole, her drive went directly into a nearby river. She gamely set out in a rowing boat to play the ball. When she finally suceeded in stroking it out of the water,it landed in dense woods. From there she drove the ball into the rough, then into a sand trap, then back into the rough. Her final score for the hole was 166. from Bob.
