STAMFORD FOR WALKER CUP RETURN?

Matthew Stamford, the former Walker Cup player, looks set to relaunch his amateur career. During his five year professional career, Stamford won titles such as the Welsh Professional Championship but did not qualify for the European Tour.

Now a policeman, Stamford will need to wait until his R&A suspension runs out in 2002 before he can regain amateur status. He aims to return to the England team and and play in the Walker Cup in 2003.

Stamford has played 22 times for England in the past and in 1993 played for GB&I in the Walker Cup at Interlachen.
