NOMINATION OF CAPTAIN FOR THE YEAR 1999-2000

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews' announced today that after a conference of past captains, Sir Michael Bonallack has been announced as the Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club for the Year 1999-2000.

Michael Bonallack was born in 1934 and joined the R&A in 1960 where he served on a number of committees, being Chairman of the Amateur Status Committee and of the Selection Committee as well as a member of the Rules of Golf Committee, the Implements & Ball Committee and the General Committee before his appointment as Secretary in 1983, in succession to the late Keith Mackenzie.

He will continue to perform the duties of Secretary, working alongside his successor, Peter Dawson, until Tuesday 14 September, prior to his taking over as Captain at the Annual Dinner of the Club two days later.
