PORTER AND STEVENSON
COMPETE IN YOUNG MASTERS

The English Golf Union is again sending two players to compete in the 54-hole European Young Masters tournament in Italy at the end of July.

David Porter (Stoneham) and Craig Stevenson (Whittington Heath) will carry England's colours at I Roveri, near Turin, on 27-29 July.

This summer is proving to be a busy time for 16 year old Porter, the McEvoy Trophy winner. Having just returned from Japan after helping England retain the World Boys Team Championship, the Hampshire lad will represent England in the annual Under-16 international against Italy at Fairhaven on 30 June, then compete in the 72-hole McGregor Trophy over the same course on the following two days.

The following week he is off to Sweden to represent England in the European Boys Team Championship in Uppsala.

Porter also competed in last year's European Young Masters at I Roveri, finishing sixth on six-over-par 222, 10 strokes behind the winner Barry Hume of Scotland.

A similar competition is run for girls in conjunction with the boys event with a Nations Cup covering both, three of the four cards each day to count.
