HENLEY
EARNS ENGLAND CALL
FOR GREEK AMATEUR
|
Darren
Henley, the 19 year old from the Stoneham Club in Hampshire, gains
his first international honour when he represents England in the
annual 72-hole Greek Amateur Championship at Glyfada on 30 September
- 3 October.
Henley,
surprise winner of the Berkshire Trophy in May, has had a string
of successes this year including winning the Hampshire title at
Brokenhurst Manor, topping the South East Qualifier over his home
course and winning the Stoneham Club Championship. He is joined
in the three-strong, all teenage team by Scott Godfrey (St Enodoc)
and Simon Robinson (Seaton Carew), both of whom have enjoyed highly
successful seasons.
Godfrey,
18, as a member of the victorious England teams in the World Boys
Team Championship in Japan, the European Boys Team Championship
in Sweden and the Boys Home Internationals in Wales. Robinson, 18,
was also a member of the winning sides in Sweden and Wales and won
both the European and World titles in the Junior Boys Championship
in Scotland, which was formerly the Doug Sanders World Junior Championship.
The
Greek title is currently in England hands, John Wells from Yorkshire
having won the title a year ago by a shot on nine under par. There
is also a Nations Cup decided over the first three rounds with the
best two cards counting.
The
team manager in Greece will be Tony Moss, an England selector.
