JUNIOR
GOLFERS GOING FOR GOLD
AT WOODHALL SPA
|
A
total of 8 junior golfers will be trying to emulate Gary Boyd, who
at 11 years of age was the youngest player to compete in and win
the 1998 national final of the English Golf Union Gold Medal.
James
Molyneux of Tyrrells Wood is the youngest in the final this year
at 13 years of age and he is joined by Mark Northey (Yelverton),
John Savage (Priors Hall), Nikk Mihajlovic (Bloxwich), Scott Crombie
(Sunbury), Glyn Bateman (Royal Eastbourne), Adam Turnbull (North
Warks) and Richard Oddy (Huddersfield).
Alongside
the juniors will be Mark Sevier of Beckenham who is returning to
Woodhall Spa after competing in 1998. Having won his medal competition
at club level his score enabled him to be one of the finalists representing
the four clubs from Kent.
The
Golf Medal is open to all male golfers affiliated to the EGU. Qualifying
rounds are staged at club level with the leading players in each
county gaining a place in the final. The number of places per county
depends on the number of affiliated clubs, the scale being one place
for twenty clubs.
A
total of 77 players will tee off on the Bracken Course at the National
Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa, on Saturday 14th August with the final
round on this 36 hole Stableford competition on Sunday 15th.
