CANON TO SPONSOR SCOTTISH YOUTHS GOLF

 

The Scottish Golf Union have concluded a new sponsorship deal with wide reaching implications for youths golf.

Canon will sponsor the Scottish Youths Stroke Play Championship which will become the Scottish Qualifier for the Canon European Under 21 Golf Championships. The top two Scottish playeres will qualify for the Final of the Canon European Under 21 Golf Championships to be held at Almenera Hotel-Golf, Sotogrande, Spain on 2nd and 3rd October 1999.

Richard Denton, Sponsorship and PR Manager for Canon Europa said: "We have been delighted with our entry into amateur golf at European level and now feel that the time is reight to develop a close relationship with Scotland, the Home of Golf. Scotland have had many fine winners of their Youths Championshipo and we welcome the opportunity of seeing their top players in theifnal of our Canon European Under 21 Golf Championships, won last year by Sergio Garcia of Spain."

Last year's Scottish Youths' Championship at Bruntsfield Links reuslte in a tie on 287 with Irishman Tim Rice beating Scottish and British Boys Champion Steven O'Hara in a play-off for hte title - thus taking the trophy overseas for hte first time since Paul McGinley in 1988

The 1999 Canon Scottish Youths Stoke Play Championship will be played at Crieff and Auchterarder Golf Clubs on 19th and 20th June. Competitors play 18 holes on each of the courses on Saturday 19th and the 40 lowest scores and ties play a further 36 holes at Crief on the Sunday.
