CANON EUROPA LAUNCH 1999 EUROPEAN
UNDER 21 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

After the success of last year's inaugural Championships, with Sergio Garcia (Spain - gross score 204) and Kirsty Taylor (England - gross score 214) Champions of Europe, Canon Europa proudly launch the 1999 Canon European Under 21 Golf Championships.

The competition is comprised of six qualifying events throughout Europe and is open to top amateurs aged under 21 from all European countries. Each regional qualifier will be played over 54 holes single stroke play tournament, with a cut after 36 holes.

The Continental European Qualifiers are to be held at Golf Club Toxandria, Holland (15-17 July), Golf de Servanes, France (18-20 August) and Stromstad GK, Sweden (10-12 September). The top 3 boys and 2 girls from each of these events will qualify for the final.

The English Qualifier is to be held at the home of the English Golf Union, Woodhall Spa on 13-15 June and the top 4 boys and 2 girls from this event will qualify.

For the Scottish Qualifier, Canon Europa are sponsoring the Scottish Golf Union's Scottish Youths' Championship on 18-20 June at Crieff and Auchterarder (boys), from which the top 2 Scottish boys will qualify and the Scottish Ladies Junior Open Strokeplay Championship from which the leading under-21 year old will qualify.

In Ireland, Canon Europa are sponsoring the Irish Youths' Amateur Open Championship on 23-25 June to be held at Cork Golf Club (boys), again the top 2 Irish boys will qualify and are sponsoring the Irish Ladies Order of Merit from which the leading under-21 year old girl will qualify.

The winners from each of the qualifying events will then go forward to the Final to be held on 2-3 October at the Almenera Course, Sotogrande, Spain, which will take place over 72 holes. The winning boy will then receive an initiation to the play in the 2000 Canon European Masters in Crans-sur-Sierre and will play with Severiano Ballesteros, who is the Patron of the Under 21 Championships. The winning girl will receive an invitation to participate in the ELPGA 2000 Compaq Open in Sweden.
