BEHCET GETS ENGLAND UNDER-16 CALL UP

England have selected only one player with representative experience in their four-strong team for the annual under-16 international against Italy at Fairhaven, lancashire on 30 June.

Eren Brecht, 15 (Langley Park), runner up in the 1998 Reid Trophy, England's under-14 championship, gets his first call up after an impressive run of results.

The rest of the team have represented their country. James Heath (Coombe Wood) and Craig Stevenson (Whittington Heath) were in the England side that won the inaugural under-16 international against Scotland at Wearside last September.

They also played in the annual match against the England girls under-18 side at Hoylake in September, while Stevenson, the Reid Trophy Winner in 1997, was reserve for the Italian match at Radcliffe on Trent a year ago.

The other member of the team is Michael Nester (Hollinwell) who also played against the girls last year, but will be getting his first taste of international golf.

England will go into the match defending an unbeaten record. In the inaugural event at Radcliffe in 1996, they battled back from losing both morning foursomes to secure a 3-3 draw, while England have come out on top in the past two contests, also at Radcliffe.

The contest will again prove a curtain raiser to the McGregor Trophy under-16 championship at Fairhaven on 1-2 July.
