CAMPBELL & LOFTUS TO PLAY IN AUSTRALIA

Chris Campbell and Mark Loftus, both of whom made their international debuts this year, have been chosen to represent Scotland in the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship which will be played at the Belmont Golf Club, Newcastle, Australia from 27 - 30 January.

For Loftus, 1999 has been a year where he posted top-class performances in many of the major events highlighted by the runner-up soft in the Johnnie Walker Scottish Amateur and second place behind Graham Rankin in the Bone Steel Scottish Stroke Play at St. Andrews. These consistent performances over the season then added up to the Cowglen player winning the SAAB Stroke Average Award with a rating of 71.77 over his 22 counting rounds.

For Campbell of Grantown-on-Spey, the best performance of his year was a semifinal place in the Scottish at Cruden Bay where Loftus, his partner for Australia, beat him on the last green.

In January of this year Scotland, represented by Craig Watson and Ewan Forbes finished well down the field at Belmont with scores of 290 and 291 against the par of 288.
