Promises Youth Development
The committee campaigning to bring the 2009 Ryder Club to Celtic
Manor claims it will provide a development programme to transform
the Welsh golfing map if it gets the nod to host the event.
"The net gain to golf as a sport and Wales as a nation would be
massive," claimed committee chairman Tony Lewis. "It would raise
the level of the game to that of the other leading golfing nations."
If Celtic Manor
wins the bid, finance will be sought from a range of sources,
including Sports Council for Wales' lottery funds.
"We want to
see more facilities and more variety, with extra public
pay-and-play courses, driving ranges, practice facilities and nine-hole
courses," added Lewis.
