Tri-Golf
An Instant Success
Tri-Golf, the
Golf Foundation's new, innovative initiative has proved to be an
instant success. It was developed to make it possible for young
children to be introduced to golf primarily through infant, junior
and primary schools, but could also be used within junior programmes
run by PGA Professionals. The plastic clubs and soft foam balls
make it possible to introduce golf in almost any environment, indoors
or outdoors.
Development
Manager, Stuart Armstrong, said, "Tri-Golf is a great teaching
tool for the PGA Professionals and can form the base level of any
junior coaching structure." He continued, "We have also
considered carefully the needs of teachers, the environment in which
they operate, and they funds they have available. Tri-Golf is more
of a concept that simply a piece of equipment and can be used to
satisfy National Curriculum requirements not only for PE, but also
for maths, citizenship and other topics."
Delapre Middle
School is already using the Tri-Golf equipment to good effect and
teacher Stuart Pitcher reported, "Tri-Golf is a wonderful introduction
for youngsters to learn the rudiments of playing golf within the
lower or middle schools." East Dorset Council, Glasgow City
Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Warwick District Council
have placed orders for the Tri-Golf packs are are planning extensive
junior golf development projects targeting local schools. Banbury
Golf Centre, Greetham Valley Golf Club and The Gleneagles Hotel
are just some of the golf facilities planning to incorporate its
use into their junior programme.
Tri-Golf packs
are available from Davies Sport on 0870 6000 195 at a cost of £149.95
plus VAT.
The Tri-Golf
initiative forms Part 1 of the England Junior Golf Development Plan
being implement by the England Junior Golf Partnership and will
be included in Development Plan being prepared by the Scottish Junior
Golf Partnership. The Golf Foundation has also incorporated Tri-Golf
into its development programmes in Wales and Ireland.
