EGU: LUPTON
AND MORGAN PICKED FOR PORTUGUESE AMATEUR
Internationals
Jonathan Lupton and John Morgan have been selected
to represent England in the Portuguese Amateur Championship at Estela,
Porto, on 13-18 March.
Yorkshireman
Lupton, from the Middlesbrough club, who reached the semi-finals
of the English Amateur Championship at St Mellion in 1999, has yet
to win full England honours but was capped at boys level and was
reserve for the European Youth Team Championship in Scotland last
year.
He
will celebrate his 22nd birthday later this month, while
Somerset-based Morgan, who turned 23 in December, made his England
international debut against France at Chart Hills last May.
A member of
the Clevedon club, Morgan won the West of England Match Play Championship
last year as well as finishing runner-up in the West of England
Strokeplay while reaching the quarter finals of the English Amateur
at Royal Lytham.
The Estela course
is situated on the coast north of Porto and has the appearance of
a British links layout. It is particularly tough when the wind blows
and was the scene of a six-man playoff for the Atlantic Open on
the European Tour in 1990, eventually won by Scotland’s Stephen
McAllister.
