A SCHEME WITH MERIT

Once again the Golf Foundation has reported a growth in the use of its impressive Merit Award Scheme, which was revised and relaunched in March 1998.

The Scheme is designed to structure the learning of young beginners, monitor their progress and reward their achievements and is currently used by hundreds of PGA Professionals across the British Isles.

The end of year figures showed a 6.7% increase in the total number of Merit Award cards issued from 1999 to 2000 with just over 32,500 sent out. The number of certificates issued increased by 2.1% to just under 18,000.

Golf Foundation Development Manager, Stuart Armstrong commented, "What is particularly pleasing is that we are continuing to see an increase in uptake at the beginner level with just over 16,500 Red Cards distributed." He continued, "The Merit Award Scheme is available to all PGA Professionals and can easily be used with groups or individuals. It is extremely versatile and offers many benefits to both the instructor and the pupil."

Further information about the Scheme is available from the Golf Foundation’s Development Department on 01920 876200.
