Computerised
Handicapping
On Hold
Having been promised the free installation
of a computerised handicapping system by the English Golf Union
late last year, golf clubs and their IT suppliers have been left
in a state of limbo because it seems that the EGU has not fulfilled
its pledge.
Last July, the EGU assured clubs that
they would receive smart cards and the corresponding equipment in
the autumn so they could use the computerised handicapping system,
but no further announcement has been made.
It is suspected that the EGU budgeted
for a £2.5 million scheme, but experts estimate that the programme
might cost as much as £7.5 million.
