"EGU SUPPORTS PGA NATIONAL GOLF WEEK AND OFFERS BEGINNERS A PATHWAY INTO
GOLF "

The English Golf Union is pleased to support The Professional Golfers' Association with their initiative to introduce more people to the game through BAE Systems National Golf Week (April 7th - 15th 2001).

Free golf lessons and clinics are to be given to complete beginners by qualified PGA professionals at venues throughout the UK and it is hoped that 25,000 plus participants will take up this opportunity. Both the PGA and EGU feel it is very important to encourage more people into the game and provide a stable foundation and clear pathway into the game.

The EGU Associate Membership Scheme will complement National Golf Week by offering all participants a chance to continue their enthusiasm from the free lessons and join the scheme. This grass-roots initiative for non golf club members is aimed at encouraging people to take up the game, whilst educating them on the rules and etiquette of golf and providing recognition of their ability through a handicap. The scheme benefits all standards of players, from beginners to more experienced golfers, both young and old, offering a pathway through to golf club membership.

The English Golf Union will continue to 'open up more golfing opportunities'
and are delighted to be working alongside The Professional Golfers' Association.
