Latest News From the
English Ladies’ Golf Association
Action Stations
The past few
months have seen much activity at the Edgbaston offices of the English
Ladies’ Golf Association.
Upgraded telephone
and computer systems a re-organisation of the boardroom into workstations
for the increased administrative staff followed the introduction
of the new ELGA logo and the appointment of new secretary Sue Dennis,
who took up her position in April.
Other ELGA appointments
include Wendy Taylor (Cheshire), who becomes Vice Chairman to Di
Stock and Chairman of the Rules & Regulations Committee. Joy
Hunter (Yorkshire) is Chairman of the National Training Committee,
Margaret Johns (Lincolnshire) Chairman of the Junior Girls Committee
and Hilary Green (Lancashire) Chairman of Selectors.
Appointed last
year and now making it her business to get out to the clubs and
meet hard working Junior Organisers and Junior Area Managers, Kirstie
Jennings, Junior Girls Development Officer will have her hands full.
This year there will be under 18, under 15 and under 13 titles to
capture at the English Girl’s Championships.
Time is
Running Out
There may still
be time for you to enter one of the most enjoyable events in ladies’
golf. Look for the posters in your club for the Rosebud Pro-Am,
an event which raises funds for English girls golf, and, if there
is still time make sure you put your name on the list for the qualifying
round to stand a chance of playing with the professionals at Abbotsley
Golf Club in the Autumn.
The event, is
organised by the ELGA Trust and sponsored by Cotswold Golf Shoes.
Lottery
Bonus
The successful
efforts of Performance Manager, Linda Bayman, to secure further
Lottery backing for ELGA Elite squads has also enabled the Association
to increase it’s spending in the support of Ladies’ golf in a number
of ways. Additional grants will go to Divisions and Counties, there
will be an increased number of seminars on rules, handicapping and
scratch scores, and plans are in hand to encourage more girls to
play golf.
The invaluable
Lottery funding will continue for a further four years subject to
England players meeting performance targets and the continued Lottery
support of sporting excellence.
