New Secretary to the
English Ladies’ Golf Association

Sue Dennis has been appointed Secretary of The English Ladies Golf Association to succeed Marian Carr. She will be taking up her appointment on 17th April 2001.

Sue, who graduated in law from Cambridge University, worked in industry for 25 years and is presently Honorary Secretary of Yorkshire Ladies’ County Golf Association. She is a member of West End and Shipley Golf Clubs, plays off a handicap of 8 and has represented Yorkshire at second team level.

Sue looks forward to the challenge of continuing to develop the links with other golfing bodies whilst working to raise the profile of ladies’ golf in England. She sees marketing and public relations as one of the key functions in her new role and is determined to further raise the profile of ladies golf in England.

Sue says "I’m convinced there are a great number of potential lady golfers who have yet to realise what a fulfilling sport the game is and we should work on making the game attractive to them, encouraging them to take up golf rather than other sports. We also have a duty to look after the existing club golfer and those at the grass roots of the sport, urging more youngsters to become involved".

Sue feels that improved communications are vital to the continuing success of the ladies’ game in England and plans to liaise closely with other golfing bodies, identifying issues of common interest.

"I am particularly looking forward to working with Kirstie Jennings, The Junior Development Officer, to encourage more youngsters to take up golf" says Sue. "Having played golf from the age of 9, I know that is the ideal sort of age to start, and there are so many more opportunities for junior girls now that there were 30 years or so ago".
