Golf project for disabled young people to be launched at the Compass Group English Open

A project designed to provide golfing opportunities for disabled young people from the Greater Birmingham area is due to be officially launched at the Compass Group English Open on June 9th at The Marriott Forest of Arden.

The Junior Disability Golf Forum has been awarded £5,000 from the Lottery Sports Fund through the Awards For All programme. The funding will be used to co-ordinate a programme of golf activities consisting of Tri-Golf sessions in special schools, training and support for teachers, and coaching from PGA Professionals at local facilities.

Dennis Hodgkins of the English Federation of Disability Sport will receive the cheque for £5,000 from Sport England on behalf of the recently formed Junior Disability Golf Forum. Following the cheque presentation young people from local special schools will take part in fun Tri-Golf activities co-ordinated by The Golf Foundation.

The Forum consists of representatives from Birmingham City Council, The Golf Foundation, the English Federation of Disability Sport, the Alison Nicholas Golf Academy, Shirley Golf Club and Wast Hills Golf centre.

Tri-Golf, schools coaching and leadership training are all included in the England Junior Golf Development Plan being implement by the England Junior Golf Partnership.
