Wolstenholme
& Clark compete in Bolivar Cup
Gary Wolstenholme
will be making his fifth visit to South America next month when
he represents England in the 17th biennial Simon Bolivar Cup in
Venezuela. The 41-year-old Walker Cup star will be accompanied by
England team-mate Graeme Clark for the World Pairs Championship
at the Valle Arriba Golf Club in Caracas from 7-10 November.
It will be Wolstenholme's
third appearance in the event. In 1997, he was partnered by Justin
Rose and two years ago by Graeme Storm. His other two visits to
South America were for the Eisenhower Trophy in Chile in 1998 and
for the Juan Carlos Tailhade Championship last year in Argentina
when he and Nick Dougherty emerged victorious.
This time, the
England pair will be hoping to lift the World Pairs title for the
first time. Wolstenholme has enjoyed another successful year in
individual and team events, the highlight being the Walker Cup triumph
over the United States in Georgia in August and England's recapture
of the Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa in September.
After making
his England debut against Spain at El Prat in February, 25-year-old
Clark has emerged as an accomplished player. He was the star against
the Spanish, dropping just half-a-point in four matches, while in
the Home Internationals he collected four wins and a half in six
outings. The aggregate scores of both players decide the Simon Bolivar
Cup over 72 holes of strokeplay.
