WELSH
GOLFING UNION:
NEW CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2000
The
Welsh Golfing Union has introduced a new championship for 2000.
The Welsh Individual Handicap Championship will be run on an annual
basis and provides a National Championship for the handicap golfer.
The Welsh Golfing Union were concerned that they did not offer enough
competitive golf for the handicap golfer and the new event will
fill that gap.
The
championship will have the following format:
- A national
competition with a 36 hole final
- Each club
will nominate one of their medal events as a qualifying competition
- There will
be two categories - 0-12 handicap and 13-28 handicap
- Each club
will submit their own winners in each category with the net score
being recorded against the CSS for the day
- The top 51
winners in each category will compete in a national final
- The overall
winner at the final will be the person with the lowest net score
over 36 holes
- Each category
will enjoy equal status as the two winners will become National
Handicap Champions
- The competition
will be open to all male golfers (adult and junior)
- The final
will take place from 7-8 September at the Llandrindod Wells Golf
Club
