ROYAL & ANCIENT GOLF CLUB OF ST. ANDREWS
NOMINATION OF CAPTAIN FOR 2000/2001

The Past Captains, having conferred together, today announced that they have nominated William John Uzielli as Captain of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club for the year 2000/2001.

John Uzielli was born in Madras, India in 1937 and was educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Oxford. By profession he is a Marine Insurance Broker and is a Director of Hogg plc.

He was an Oxford blue from 1958 to 1960 and captained Oxford in his final year. He went on to win the President's Putter in 1965 and is the current President of the Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Society. A member of the winning Marlborough Halford-Hewitt team in 1972, he has played over 100 matches in each of the President's Putter and Halford-Hewitt.

He is a Past Captain of The Berkshire Golf Club and a member of Trevose Golf Club. Since becoming a member of the R&A in 1979, John has served on the Championship Committee and the Rules of Golf Committee.
