PETER MCEVOY RE-APPOINTED
CAPTAIN OF GB&I TEAMS

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews has re-appointed Peter McEvoy captain of all GB&I senior teams for events including the St. Andrews Trophy being played at Turnberry on 30th June and 1st July; the World Amateur Team Championship at Berlin from 31st August - 3rd September and the 2001 Walker Cup which will be played at Ocean Forest, Sea Island, Georgia on 11th and 12th August.

Since assuming the role of GB&I captain in March 1998, McEvoy has led teams to success in the Eisenhower Trophy in Chile and at Nairn in the Walker Cup where the home team posted a record 15-9 win over America. The one reversal was in the St. Andrews Trophy played in 1998 at Villa D'Este, Italy, where GB&I never recovered from a two point deficit on the first day, eventually going down 14-10.

Peter McEvoy, 46, born 22 March 1953, had an outstanding career in amateur golf which included winning the Amateur Championship in 1977 and 1978, being a member of the Walker Cup sides of 1977, 1979, 1981, 1985 and 19891 and of the World Amateur Team Championship teams of 1978, 1980, 1984, 1986 and lastly 1988 in Ullva, Sweden where GB&I won the Eisenhower Trophy and McEvoy took the individual title.
