Millfield Boy Takes Laddie's Prize

Ben Evans, who recently gained a golf scholarship to Millfield School, was the winner of this year's 'Laddie' Lucas Spoon at Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent.

The 13-year-old from Dale Hill Golf Club in Sussex plays off a handicap of five and was

clear winner of the boys' title at an event which was contested by 90 children, aged between eight and 13.

The girls' prize was claimed by Pamela McQuirk from Prince's while 11-year-old Oliver Fisher from West Essex was the winner of the handicap competition.

The event, in its 12th year, is sponsored by the Golf Society of Great Britain in memory of the late 'Laddie' Lucas, a former Walker Cup player and Battle of Britain pilot who was born in the old Prince's clubhouse.
