GREWAL CALLED UP TO FACE SOUTH AFRICA
Sandeep
Grewal, winner of the West of England Championship earlier this
month, will make his senior international debut against South Africa
at Formby on 1 June.
The
18 year old from the Heswall club in Cheshire, came from a long
way back to take the title at Royal North Devon and is rewarded
with a place in the four-man team to face the Springboks in the
one day international.
Grewal,
a member of the England training squad, is joined by Richard McEvoy,
Nick Dougherty, and David Griffiths who all played major roles in
England’s victory over France at Chart Hills this month.
Essex
based McEvoy (Thorpe Hall) emerged with a 100% record from three
matches on his England debut, while Griffiths was also unbeaten,
securing three wins and a half in his four outings.
Dougherty
(Shaw Hill), who also made his debut against the French, suffered
one defeat in four matches but played a big part in England’s 17.5
– 6.5 victory.
The
match at Formby will consist of two foursomes and four singles.
The reserve is Tom Whitehouse (Maxstoke Park) while Malcolm Lewis
will captain the team.
The
South Africa line up will be Dean Lambert, Richard Sterne, Jaco
Van der Merwe and Jaco van Zyl.
