GOLF AT THE ‘FORE’ IN WORLD CORPORATE GAMES

Golfers from around the globe will be travelling to Scotland, the home of golf, this July to participate in golfing competitions held throughout the World corporate Games.  The World Corporate Games, which have previously been held in cities such as San Francisco, Kuala Lumpar and Aruba, take place in Aberdeen in the north east of Scotland from 13 – 16 July this year.  More than ten thousand participants are expected to compete in the games’ twenty-four sports making it an even bigger event than the Olympic Games.

The golf tournament will bring golfers from around the world to tee off at both Murcar and Newmachar golf courses as well as a Corporate Open all consisting of two 18 hole rounds. Maximum handicaps are 35 for women and 27 for men.

Gary Forbes, Professional Golfers at Murcar Golf Club said “We are looking forward to welcoming our international visitors to Murcar Golf Club.  We want them to experience just how good golfing in Scotland can be and how easily accessible and inexpensive many of our courses are.  Then, they can spread the word to their friends and relatives back home and hopefully we’ll be welcoming them next year to try out our golf courses for themselves!”

Aberdeen and Grampian was made very famous in the golfing world in 1999 when Paul Lawrie from Aberdeen won The Open Golf Championship at Carnoustie.  The region is also home to over sixty golf courses, almost one sixth of all courses in Scotland.  These include Cruden Bay links course which is continually listed as one of the top 100 golf courses of the world in Golf Digest.  Royal Aberdeen, established in 1780 is the 6th oldest golf course in the world and the 18 hole golf course at Braemar is the highest in Britain.

Aberdeen and Grampian Tourist Board produce the Grampian Golf Guide to offer readers information on a variety of golf courses in the area.  Golfers visiting the area can also take advantage of the Moray for Golf pass which allows them to play 18 holes at the 10 participating golf courses for only £60, so only $6 a course!  In summer time the days are much longer in the north of Scotland and golfers can enjoy a round until at least 10pm, a good way to work off the over consumption of the good food available throughout the region!
