ENGLISH GOLF UNION:
SCOTLAND IN ENGLAND SQUAD FOR SPAIN

Teenager, Zane Scotland, who battled his way through the qualifying rounds of last year's Open Championship at Carnoustie, is named in the England Squad to contest the Sherry Cup in Spain on 30 March - 2 April.

The Surrey youngster, who celebrated his 17th birthday during those heady days at Carnoustie last July, is included in a nine-strong squad for the annual 72 hole tournament played at Sotogrande.

England will be placing the accent on youth with Scotland being joined by three more teenagers, Adam Frayne, David Griffiths and David Porter, while Richard McEvoy is 20.

The rest of the squad is Matthew King, 24, John Morgan, 22, Mark Side, 24, with the evergreen Gary Wolstenholme, the senior member at 39. The team manager will be Paul Jelly, the EGU's National Coaching Manager.

Scotland, Frayne, Griffiths and Porter are seasoned boy internationals, while Griffiths earned his first senior cap in last September's Home Internationals along with Side.

McEvoy reached the semifinals of the Amateur Championship at Royal County Down in 1999 while three of the squad, Frayne, Griffiths and McEvoy will be making their second visit in a fortnight to Spain as they are also in the team for the Spanish Amateur Championship in Barcelona earlier in March.

The Sherry Cup always attracts a strong international field. This year's event is limited to 80 male and 40 female players with a cut after 36 holes, the leading 40 men ad 20 women going on to battle for the Masters Jacket and the Golf Wine Goblets. Those who miss the cut will compete over 36 holes for the Silver Consolation Goblets.
