Junior Golf

The English Golf Union is committed to the future development of junior golf in England and works closely with other national organisations to open up more opportunities for young people to play golf.

As the governing body for the men’s game, the English Golf Union has the responsibility to promote and organise the development and encouragement of Junior Golf in England. This involves the Union in promoting golf from grass roots development through to World Class performers who represent England on the International stage.

The English Golf Union encourages and supports young golfers of all standards from grass roots level at golf clubs within its Junior Club Coaching programme to the best young players in the country through its National Coaching structure. Any young player with the necessary talent will be recognised through the club, County Union and National structure and given the opportunity to reach their potential thanks to the work of the English Golf Union.

The English Golf Union also run a series of National Championships, which include:

The English Boys’ Open Amateur Stroke play Championship – Carris Trophy

The English Boys’ Under 16 Open Amateur Stroke play Championship – McGregor Trophy

The English Boys’ Under 14 Open Amateur Stroke play Championship – Reid Trophy

Results achieved in certain of these events and other selected tournaments influence selection for England international representation.

In their aim to encourage and develop junior golf in England, the English Golf Union work very closely with the English Ladies’ Golf Association and other organisations to open up more golfing opportunities for young people to play golf.
