EGU TO SUPPORT PARTICIPANTS OF NATIONAL GOLF WEEK FOLLOWING FREE LESSONS

The English Golf Union have again agreed to support the Professional Golfers' Association with their initiative to introduce more people to the game through BAE Systems National Golf Week (21 April - 1 May).

Free golf lessons and clinics are to be given to complete beginners by qualified PGA professionals at venues throughout the UK and it is hoped that 25,000 plus participants will take up this opportunity. Both the PGA and EGU feel it is very important to encourage more people into the game and provide a stable foundation and clear pathway into the game. Colin Montgomerie, will again support the event and he strongly believes that you are never too old or too young to start the game, the only right time to learn is NOW.

The EGU Associate Membership Scheme will complement National Golf Week by offering all participants a chance to continue their enthusiasm from the free lessons and join the scheme. This grassroots initiative for non golf club members is aimed at encouraging people to take up the game, whilst educating them on the rules and etiquette of golf and providing recognition for their ability through a handicap. The scheme benefits all standards of players, from beginners to more experienced golfers, both young and old and will hopefully offer a pathway through to golf club membership.

The EGU, who will continue to invest in grassroots golf, junior golf development and coaching schemes, are delighted to be working alongside the Professional Golfers' Association.
