Golfers Make Positive Start to the Season
The Cambs and
Hunts Ladies County Golf Teams are ensuring that they start the
season on a positive note by gaining some tips from the pros. A
squad of 12 county players attended a day’s golf clinic with English
Ladies Golf Association Regional Coach, Christine Langford. The
day’s tuition on the Short Game was held at Whaddon Golf Centre
– generously provided for the day for the exclusive use of the County.
Christine, founding member of the Women’s European Tour and one
of the first European US LPGA Tour members, put the girls through
their paces on every aspect of the short game including exercises
in pitching, chipping, downhill lies, bunker play and putting, using
the latest practice gadgets.
The afternoon
saw the County Team members pitted against each other in a ‘friendly’
Par 3 competition with Paula Parker from Abbotsley GC and Mo Webster
from Brampton Park GC emerging victorious.
Christine brought
the practice day to a close with words that will ring true to any
golfer – ‘Practice makes Permanent’, ‘ Use quality practice time’,
‘Dwell on good shots not bad!’ and ‘Expect to perform well’.
The County Captain,
Judy Freeman, in thanking Christine Langford, remarked that ‘The
day’s tuition had been a wonderful day’s golf practice with a superb
golf professional who had set the County Team up for a positive
start to their year’
As any golfer
will attest, knowing the correct ruling in any given situation may
get you out of hot water. So, a recent light-hearted ‘Know the Rules’
evening at Brampton Park GC, run by Val O’Grady – County Deputy
Handicap Adviser, also gave the County Team members an opportunity
to brush up on their knowledge of the Rules of Golf in preparation
for the new season.
If you would
like to see the Cambs and Hunts Ladies County Golf Teams in action,
the 2nd Team season commences with a match against Leicestershire
at Ramsey GC on April 25 while the 1st Team will compete
against Norfolk, Suffolk and Bedfordshire in a series of matches
to be played in County Week at The Gog Magog Golf Club on 13/14
and 15 June.
