Turns Professional
Paul Casey,
who won his second consecutive English Amateur Championship in August
at Royal Lytham & St Annes, has decided to leave Arizona State
University to pursue a professional career.
The 23-year-old
from Surrey was the individual runner-up at the World Amateur Team
Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy in September and won all
four of his games as a key member of last year's victorious GB &
Ireland Walker Cup team at Nairn.
"After
winning the English Amateur and playing in the World Amateur Team
Championship, I came back to school intent on playing at collegiate
level," said Casey. "After evaluating my opportunities,
though, it seemed best for me to turn professional at this time."
His three-year
university career featured six victories, including this year's
Pac-10 Championship when he broke Tiger Woods' record by five strokes
with a 23-under-par 265. He will be looked after by Gaylord Sports
Management who have several clients among the leading American players.
