Members Honour Casey
English Amateur
champion Paul Casey has been awarded honorary lifetime membership
at Burhill Golf Club, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey for his outstanding
achievements in golf.
The 22-year-old,
currently in his fourth year of a golf scholarship at Arizona State
University, hit the headlines when he smashed Tiger Woods' American
University record with a round of 60 in Seattle.
He then stormed
to success in the 1999 English Amateur Championship at St Mellion,
which earned him a place in the GB&I Walker Cup team which beat
the USA at Nairn.
Casey helped
England to victory before going on to win further international
caps, most recently in the St Andrews Trophy tournament at Turnberry.
A member at
Burhill since 1993, he has taken part in many of the junior medal
competitions, clinics and inter-club competitions.
"We are
delighted and very proud of what Paul has achieved over the last
year and this award is, I am sure, only the first of many for a
young man of such talent," said Burhill managing director Paddy
Mitchell.
Said Paul: "This
award is very special to me because I have spent so much time at
Burhill and have many friends there."
