Carol
to Leave USGA Committee
Carol Semple
Thompson, who played in her 10th Curtis Cup match earlier this year,
is to step down from the United States Golf Association executive
committee after seven years.
"I have
decided that someone else should have the opportunity to be on the
executive committee. There are a lot of good people out there who
want to serve," she said.
The daughter
of Harton (Bud) Semple, who was USGA president in 1974-75, she was
expected eventually to become the second female USGA president following
Judy Bell in 1996-97.
"There
are many ways to volunteer in golf," said 51-year-old Thompson,
who lives in Pennsylvania. "I hope to be more involved on the
local level."
Thompson won
the last two US Senior Women's Amateur Championships having previously
captured one US Women's Amateur and two US Women's Mid-Amateur titles.
Meanwhile,
Trey Holland, an Indianapolis doctor, has been nominated to serve
a second one-year term as USGA presidentFoundation from 1996-99.
