NEW
NATIONAL COACHING STATUS FOR BROMSGROVE
The
Worcestershire market town of Bromsgrove is not renowned as a
centre of national sporting excellence - but that's about to change
thanks to the English Golf Union.
When
the chiefs of England's junior golf game went looking for a new
training "home", for some of the country's finest young
players they opted for Bromsgrove Golf Centre.
The
English Golf Union's chose of the family owned Bromsgrove course
may come as a surprise to some, but not to EGU Junior Delegate
Ron Snelling.
He
explained, "Bromsgrove offered a really warm welcome in an
environment and atmosphere conducive to the needs of our talented
youngsters. We feel comfortable and confident that our up and
coming players will benefit from national training weekends in
their new surroundings."
"Bromsgrove
is now an approved coaching centre of the EGU and will host two
training sessions in the Year 2000 and hopefully many more in
the years to come."
The
Stratford Road complex becomes the only approved centre in the
West Midlands when nine of England's finest young golfers attend
a two-day training sessions next month on 4-5 March.
With
expert tuition provided by the EGU's West Midlands Regional Coach,
John Cook, the players are encouraged to improve their technique
but also learn about different aspects of the game including sports
psychology, fitness and nutrition, tournament preparation and
what life is like on the professional circuit.
The
nine boys attending are drawn from clubs in Staffordshire, Shropshire,
Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire,
Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
