Four English amateurs will parade their skills alongside the cream of the professional game in the Open Championship at Muirfield in a couple of weeks following superb performances in Wednesday's Final Qualifying.

At Gullane No1, England international Ben Stow (Rushmore, Wiltshire) led the way with round of 72 and 68, while boy cap Matthew Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire, Yorkshire) was tied second a shot further back after signing for 69 and 72. Only the leading three qualified.

Meanwhile, at North Berwick, where only three again qualified, Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon) produced two 68s to top the leaderboard on 136, six under par.

It's been quite a week for the 19 year old from Bideford. He finished tied third in the Brabazon Trophy at Formby on Saturday, his closing 71 containing a hole-in-one with an eight-iron at the 139-yard 16th hole.

In another qualifying event at The Musselburgh, William Bowe (Workington, Cumbria) finished fourth with a pair of 69s and missed qualifying by two strokes, while England international Callum Shinkwin (Moor Park, Hertfordshire) also missed by two at Dunbar after finishing equal eighth with rounds of 68 and 67.

The fourth amateur on the start sheet at Muirfield will be Garrick Porteous (Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland), who qualified automatically as Amateur champion. He won the title at Royal Cinque Ports in Kent 12 days ago, beating Finland's Toni Hakula 6 and 5 in the 36-hole final.
