Suffolk golfer Joyce Booth shot an impressive net score of four-under par to lead the East region qualifiers for the 2011 Volvo EWGA Grand Medal Final.

Joyce scored net 67 at the Volvo EWGA East region medal final at Fynn Valley Golf Club in Suffolk. The event was contested by the best club medal players from EWGA's East region and the top 10 qualified for the Grand Medal Final at Droitwich Golf Club, Worcestershire, on June 25.

The 10, who will join qualifiers from EWGA's other five regions to compete for the title of England's champion medal player, are: Joyce Booth (Thorpeness), Sophie Mills (Wyboston Lakes), Lynda Dunbar (The Essex), Sally Shayler (Bedfordshire), Freda Guest (Fynn Valley), Samantha Edwards (Diss), Tiffany Mills (Ryston Park), Jane Winsworth (Bawburgh), Lesley Barnes (Stowmarket) and June Morgan (Langdon Hills).

All the regional finalists returned the best four scores in the Volvo EWGA  Medals at their club during 2010.

Joyce Booth was representing her home club, Thorpeness, in the regional final but she is also a member at Fynn Valley, where she first took up golf 20 years ago.

"I do know the course but I haven't won anything here for at least 18 months. I just can't believe I have done it, but I'm over the moon," she said.

This is Joyce's biggest win so far and her appearance in the Grand Medal Final will be her first in a national competition. "I'll be a bit nervous but I shall look forward to it," she said.
