Insch GC launches 'Inch of Insch' fundraising competition Insch Golf Club has announced the launch of the 'Inch of Insch' competition which involves players selecting a number of squares on a grid which represents the 18th green. When the competition is closed an independent professional or dignitary will be invited to hit balls to the green. The person who has reserved the grid on which a ball lands will receive up to £4,000, subject to the level of entries registered. Bernie Vincent, Chairman of the fundraising committee stated "Insch Golf Club is a vital part of the village community. Not only do we have an active full playing membership, including a large group of seniors, we also have around 70 juniors who receive tuition from a dedicated group of playing and social members. The golf club supports the local football team and we provide a friendly resource for social members. "However we want to do more and develop the club further; in particular, we have a plan to upgrade the course, specifically bunkering. The ‘Inch of Insch’ competition is intended to become a key contributor to our development plan along with further fund raising events."
Insch Golf Club is laid out on the bottom slopes of Dunnideer Hill looking towards Bennachie, one of the most distinctive landmarks in north-east Scotland. The club was founded in 1906 and moved to its present location in 1923 where it existed until 1940, when the ground was seconded by the War Department for use as a grenade range. Golf was absent in Insch until a committee was formed in 1977 to provide the village with such a facility. A nine-hole course was built by voluntary labour and reopened for play in 1982. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1997, and is now also a pioneer of Night Golf (played without floodlights). For further information visit the club website here.
