Hannah Burke is top English player at European championship

International Hannah Burke was the top England player at the European ladies' championship at Kuneticka Hora in the Czech Republic.

Hannah (Mid-Herts) finished the 72-hole event tied eighth on one-under par. Scores rose in the final round when players had to contend with rain and low temperatures, after three days of heat and sun.

Hannah, the Irish open strokeplay champion, signed off with a three-over 75, following earlier rounds of 72, 68, 72.

Curtis Cup player Hannah Barwood (Knowle) tied 21st on two-over with rounds of 73, 72, 71, 74. Two shots further back was her Gloucestershire colleague and fellow international Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton) who shot 75, 70, 72, 77.

They were followed by English champion Hayley Davis (Ferndown) on 75, 72, 71, 77; and Curtis Cup player Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton)  74, 73, 69, 80.

The championship was won by Germany's Sophia Popov who was eight-under par and three shots clear of the field.
