England lose to Scotland in European ladies' team championship
8th July 2010

England's hopes of a medal at the European ladies' team championship at La Manga Club, Spain, were dashed when they were beaten 4-3 by Scotland in the quarter finals.

Team captain Julie Otto said: "It is disappointing to say the least. The Scottish team played well but we missed a number of chances, particularly round the greens."

The Scots took command early on when they won both foursomes and they needed just two points from the singles to reach the semi-finals.

England's three Curtis Cup players all won their singles matches but overall the team fell just short of a comeback. Now, they will play for position in the top flight and tomorrow they meet the Netherlands.

In the day's other matches Sweden beat France 4½-2½, Germany beat Denmark 5-2, Spain beat Netherlands 4-3
