Canford Magna golfers are EWGA Trust champions They won the 2009 EWGA Trust Stableford Competition, beating over 200 clubs to claim the trophy and a laptop computer from sponsors, Advanced Computer Systems of Birmingham. The Trust is the charity of the English Women's Golf Association and women's sections were invited to fundraise at a summer stableford competition. They were asked to make a donation based on the points scored by the top ten players in their competition and nationwide they raised nearly £3000. Canford Magna's top ten players amassed an impressive total of 407 points and their success in winning the award was announced at the EWGA annual meeting. Ladies' captain Jenny James was prevented from attending the meeting by wintry weather but sent a message commenting: “The work the EWGA Trust does is fantastic and we feel it should be actively encouraged. We will certainly continue to run a competition in support of the Trust and we wish you every success because young ladies are the future of our game.” The Trust makes grants to help girl golfers but its income has fallen over recent years, forcing it to cut back on its awards and this competition is one initiative to boost funds.
