She has booked herself a start on the Ladies European Tour when she won the women's title at the R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament at her first attempt. and the European tour beckons for Sian

Competing for the first time in the prestigious tournament which involves all the R&A bursars, Sian battled windy conditions to keep hold of her overnight lead to finish three under-par with a 54-hole total of 219.

The University of Birmingham applied golf management studies student has now earned a place to a ladies European Tour event later this summer.

“I'm ecstatic! It was an ambition to win this week and try to get some Tour experience, and now I've got the chance to try and compete with the European Tour ladies!”

This follows the news that Sian has been selected to be part of the British Universities team that will play the Midland Counties on April 19 th . Fellow University team mate and scholar Andrew Smedley is also a member as a reserve.

Sian, a first-year student at Birmingham University, was three-under par for the 54-hole competition at St Andrews and she won by one shot.

The first two rounds were played over the Eden course and Sian set up her victory with a superb six-under par 67 on her second circuit. It helped put her four shots clear of the field and stood her in good stead in the final round over the Old Course as she came under increasing pressure from two French students.

She held her nerve well, producing an excellent up-and-down from behind the Road Hole bunker on the 17th, to score 77, which matched the CSS.

Sian, a member at Bristol & Clifton, commented afterwards: “It was pretty tough; I was struggling a little bit off the tee so I knew I had to be level-par because I knew that others would make birdies round this course.”

She's already looking forward to her prize of a date on the Ladies European Tour. “I'm ecstatic about that. It was an ambition to win this week and try to get some Ladies European Tour experience, because that's where I want to be eventually.

Now I've got the chance to try and compete with the European Tour ladies!”

Sian was a member of the English Women's Golf Association Performance Squad before starting university.
