Marlborough Ladies - League winners.
September 2009

For the second year running!

Saturday 26th September and Marlborough Ladies League team needed to win 2 of the 5 games in their match against the Chippenham Ladies League.

Captain Trish King started with a spring in her step, however despite a birdie on 7th wh was 1 down after the first 9.  Summoning all her skills and positive thinking, she then had success, winning the next 4 holes to go 3 up coming off the 13th green where MGC team member Karen Gosling was waiting, having finished her match, and winning 7 and 6. Discovering Nina Davies was under severe pressure from her Chippenham opponent and looking like she could lost, Trish was well aware that Marlborough had to win at least one game, if not her own then Pauline Ruddick or Isobel Henry had to succeed.

Trish halved the 14th, lost the 15th and 16th so she was only 1 up on 17th tee. Walking up towards the 17 th green Pauline was walking in having lost her game. That left Isobel who was walking down 16 th .  When Trish asked how things were going and was she still in, she replied " Yes, just! "  

Talk about nail biting golf!  Trish knew that Isobel or she must win. Next thing Trish's partner sinks an 8 foot putt to win the 17th hole and so it was all square going down the 18th. We make our way down the last and after Trish's opponent 2 putted she was left with a 3 foot putt, and knew it had to go in to win the hole and the League. Trying to stay calm and praying hard the ball goes in, Trish made her putt!! What relief and jubilation.

As it happened Isobel sank a great chip on the 18th to halve her match so Marlborough did actually get one more point than needed to win the League, but of course Trish didn't find this out and after she had finished her game.

What a fantastic result for the Marlborough Ladies, it was really quite a game.
