The Junior Section of the Club recently appointed a new coordinator, Simon Amor for the 2009 season.  Simon started his career at the Club as a junior player and has enjoyed a very successful career. He was South West Counties champion in 1990.  Simon is the resident Pro at Marlborough and has been involved with the juniors for many years.

Marlborough has a strong and growing junior section with just over 80 members.  The current Junior Captain, Alexander Ballard has been a member of the Club since 2003 and enjoys a handicap of 5.6.  Alexander will also lead this year's Wiltshire Junior League, with matches being played against 8 other Clubs in the county this season.

Whilst there will be opportunities for juniors of all ages and capabilities to learn golf, improve their skills and make new friends there are also plenty of competitive opportunities for those keen to test their skills.

“We are delighted to announce that Marlborough will host its first Junior Open on 18 th August, 2009. This event will be open to all girls and boys under the age of 18 on 01/01/2009 with handicap limit of 36 for the girls and 28 for the boys.  On offer are the Junior Thistle Cup and Freddie's Cup. The prize table promises to be first class with the support of Callaway and Titleist, companies who have been great supporters of our Club over the years. ” comments Simon Amor, MGC Junior Co-coordinator.”We are also introducing an Order of Merit this year and running our very successful Junior Fun Day, an event that has gained much support over the years thanks to the great work of Tony Leach and our Patron, Fred Boardman. “

Juniors enjoy a variety of membership opportunities at the Club from accompanied to 7 day.  There are regular coaching sessions, in-house knock out competitions, monthly medals and several major trophies to aim for during the year.

Last year's major trophy winners include Ben  Mapson, the Dobson Trophy; Jamie Amor the Under 15 and Mayors Trophy; ,Jack Deane, the Janet Wood Memorial Cup , Kyran Slade the Easter Challenge Trophy; Sam Munton, the Charles Whatley Trophy  and Ben Amor who won the Junior Club Championship.

“We are delighted to have Simon step up to the role of Junior Co-coordinator.  He is a long standing and highly respected member of Marlborough and his own sons regularly play at the Club.  A thriving junior section is an important part of any healthy Club and we look forward to all of our junior members enjoying a great year in 2009,” added Les Trute, General Manager.
