Leading England amateur Jodi Ewart (pictured) staged an ace display alongside the professionals of the Ladies European Tour to tie for 10th place in the AIB Ladies Irish Open at Portmarnock Links.
Jodi, from Catterick in Yorkshire, was two-under par for the 54-hole event – and had a hole-in-one during the second round.
It was one of four aces recorded during the tournament. Jodi scored hers on the 164-yard third hole where she used a seven iron.
It was her fourth hole in one and she commented: “I hit a good shot and I was just picking up my tee and I saw it disappear. But there's a lot of ridge in front of where the pin was and I thought it was just rolling down to the pin - but everyone started screaming and I was like ‘oh wow!'”
Jodi shot two-over 74 in the first round but followed up with sub-par rounds of 69 and 71. She has been English strokeplay champion for the past two years and, as a student at the University of New Mexico, is ranked ninth nationally on the US women's college circuit.
Jodi was playing in the LET event with fellow members of the GB&I Vagliano Trophy team as part of their warm-up for the match against the Continent of Europe in Germany on July 24 and 25.
Three other members of the team also made the cut in the tournament. Rhian Wyn Thomas of Wales was five over with rounds of 74, 75, 72; England's Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton) was seven over, 70, 79, 74; Ireland's Danielle McVeigh was nine over, 74, 70 81.
The tournament was won by Diana Luna of Italy on 11-under par. It proved a good event for former top England amateurs: Florentyna Parker was in a group sharing second place on seven-under; Melissa Reid was sixth on five-under, while Sophie Walker was among those tied 10th with Jodi.
