Rachel Jennings in fighting finish at Welsh championship

England international Rachel Jennings was runner-up in the Welsh open strokeplay championship at Royal Porthcawl after she staged a fighting finish to the tournament.
Rachel, from Izaak Walton in Staffordshire, birdied the 15th, 16th and 17th to get within a shot of the eventual winner, Danielle McVeigh of Northern Ireland.
She needed one more birdie on the 18th to force a play-off but she had to settle for a par. Rachel had shared the lead after 36 holes, on two-under par, but she slipped back after dropping three shots on the front nine of the final round.
She finished the 54-hole tournament on one-under par with scores of 73, 75, 76. Danielle McVeigh was one shot better with rounds of 71, 79, 73.
Five other English players were in the top 10: Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa) was fourth; Tilly Holder (Woburn) fifth; Kelly Tidy (Royal Birkdale) and Cori Lee (West Lancashire) shared sixth place; Nikki Foster (Accrington & District) was 10th.
