Every county in England ran girls' golf coaching last year with the help of grants from the English Women's Golf Association (EWGA).

All 35 women's county golf associations took advantage of EWGA's Development and Subscription grants to put on successful coaching activities for girl golf club members and girls at the early stages of playing the game. On average, more than 100 girls took part in each county. Their ages ranged from eight to 18 and many of the counties arranged follow-up activities to keep them interested and involved in golf.

The funding for county associations is available again in 2009. The Subscription grant offers associations £5 per junior girl golf club member and the Development grant is £750. The grants are administered through the EWGA and English Golf Union (EGU) development team and feedback from the county associations has been positive.

“The grant helps to organise more coaching sessions plus fun competitions to keep the girls interested in golf”.
Dorset County Association.

“Thank you to EWGA for this support which I believe focuses on the most important group in Lancashire – the girls who have made the commitment to join a golf club and need help towards getting a handicap. With this they are more likely to stay and succeed”.
Lancashire County Association

“Our junior committee work very hard to encourage and develop girls into golf. The grants are crucial to the continued success of our programme”.
Oxfordshire County Association.

The County Association Development and Subscription Grants are initiatives jointly provided by EWGA and the EGU in support of EWGA's strategy to ‘Drive Women's Golf' and form part of England Golf's ‘Whole Sport Plan' for golf and vision to ‘Grow the Game'.
