Rebuilding Brickendon Grange

The thorough renovation of Brickendon Grange Golf Club is entering a final and exciting phase which will enhance the course’s reputation as one of the most scenic and challenging courses in the area.

Work started on the mature parkland course back in 2003 in line with designs by internationally renowned golf course architects, Swan Golf Designs and was phased over a seven year period to ensure minimum disruption to players.

The work on 12 holes has already been finalised and now the design team are preparing to implement the final piece of the jigsaw in the transformation of the course.

Howard Swan said: “We are delighted with the progress so far, it is enormously satisfying to see the plans made on paper come to life on the golf course. We have created a mix of interesting challenges for golfers of all standards in a beautiful environment.

Throughout the renovation work Howard Swan’s team have designed around existing course features, such as old trees, improved the flow of the course and combined beauty with the prospect of realistic but challenging golf.

This final stage, due to begin this autumn, will see the transformation of the last six holes of the course as well as the creation of three brand new holes that will serve a new golf academy.

James Hetherington, General Manager at the club said: “The difference made by the changes so far is remarkable, you fully appreciate some of the nuances when you play the course. The course profile is being raised and it won’t be long now before we see the end result”.

On completion of the project, Swan Golf Designs’ committed team will have raised the bar at Brickendon Grange. They are well on target to creating a distinctive and natural course, sympathetically designed to blend into its surroundings.

The work is expected to be completed in 2010.
