2008 EUROPEAN FATHER & SON CH. RELATED STORIES

 Event Preview

The European Father and Son Championship was conceived by Toby Marsden, Managing Director of UK School of Golf, online Golf Tour operators and specialists to Catalonia in Spain, with the aim of bringing fathers and sons together in the great game of golf.

The PortAventura venue is a major new development at Salou on Spain's Costa Daurada, with a Greg Norman designed championship course which was opened for play just four months ago. (Click here for details and image galleries of the PortAventura courses)

The tournament is open to all possible father and son pairings, with no age limits, amateur or pro, with a handicap limit of 28. The format is a 54 hole, two-ball, better-ball stableford off three-quarters of handicap (maximum allowance 18), ensuring a level playing field for all the contestants.

49 teams will compete, representing nine countries: The Czech Republic, England, Finland, Germany, The Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Sweden and Wales.

The field boasts some serious golfing skills, with eight professionals taking part, as well as two scratch amateurs, two 2-handicappers, a 3-handicap and three 4-handicaps.

Tournament conditions will apply, with full-sized tournament scorebard, official starter each day and refereeing by the Catalan Golf Federation.

In addition to the main event for the title of 2008 European Father and Sons Champions, there will be a better ball medal scratch prize over the three days of competition.
